The headline Reality Index and the official CPI are given as index levels (1980 = 100) and year-over-year rates, annually from 1970 to 2025; the ten category buckets are given as index levels; and the 2026 monthly prints are given as year-over-year rates with the cumulative gap. The methodology behind every series is documented at reality-index-methodology. Use it freely — a citation back to realityindex.co is all we ask.

Units. Index levels are anchored to 1980 = 100. Year-over-year figures are percent. The cumulative gap is the Reality Index level divided by the CPI level at that date, minus one.
Basis. The headline uses a fixed 2000 expenditure basket (Laspeyres), anchored to 1980. Category weights and the full method are on the methodology page; alternative weightings are on the weighting page.
