Reading the chart. Single-coverage premium is what an employer-sponsored plan costs to cover one worker (no dependents). Annual premium grew 4.25× over 26 years versus CPI 1.93× — single coverage grew about 2.2× faster than overall inflation, slightly slower than family coverage (4.66×). The KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey has tracked this series annually since 1999 with consistent methodology.
